BC Jindal Group Announces ₹15,000 Crore Investment for Odisha Steel Expansion

The BC Jindal Group is set to invest ₹15,000 crore in a new downstream steel manufacturing facility in Odisha. The project, a key part of the company's growth strategy for the 2026 fiscal year, will be developed through its subsidiary, Jindal India Steel Tech Limited (JISTL).

The investment will be rolled out in three phases by 2030, with an initial outlay of ₹2,500 crore in the first phase. This new greenfield facility will produce specialized coated steel products and will include a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM), a Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL), and a Colour Coating Line (CCL). The first phase aims for an initial annual capacity of 9.6 lakh tonnes by 2027.

The group plans to eventually expand the flat products division at the Odisha unit to a capacity of 30 lakh tonnes per annum by 2030. Additionally, the company will establish a new steel pipe manufacturing unit with an estimated annual capacity of 2 lakh tonnes.

Currently, Jindal (India) Limited operates two facilities in West Bengal. The company recently invested ₹1,500 crore to expand its existing steel production, with completion expected in the current fiscal year. The group has also increased its metal beam crash barrier capacity by 75%, securing a new order worth ₹300 crore from NHAI and Indian Railways in FY25.

With a turnover exceeding ₹18,000 crore, the BC Jindal Group has a diversified business portfolio that includes packaging films, energy, and renewables, in addition to its expanding steel and solar cell manufacturing operations.
