Cabinet Approves Railway Projects Worth Over ₹18,000 Crore.

The Union Cabinet has approved four major multitracking projects for Indian Railways, with a total investment of ₹18,658 crore. The projects, spanning Odisha, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, will add 1,247 track kilometres (680 route km) to the national rail network.

Targeted for completion by 2030–31, the projects aim to enhance train speeds, reduce logistics costs, and support a greener transportation system.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the move is expected to significantly boost the Railways' share in the cargo logistics sector, which currently stands at around 29 per cent.
