Cabinet gives nod for land acquisition

Kozhikode: The State Cabinet has given its green signal for acquisition of land under fast tract scheme for road development in Kozhikode.

This was announced by Minister for Public Works Mons Joseph.

The Cabinet approval came in response to representations made by Industries Minister Elamaram Karim, Forest Minister Benoy Viswom, MLAs A. Pradeep Kumar and P.M.A. Salam and Mayor K. Bhaskaran.

The project envisages development of 13 roads (68.21 km) and two over-bridges.

Under its first phase, land would be acquired for Vellimadukunnu - Kovoor Road; Panathuthazham - CWRDM Road; Karaparamba - Kalluthankadavu Road; Mananchira - Vellimadukunnu Road (a portion of NH 212); and Gandhi Road - Mini Bypass - Kunniyilkadavu Junction - Mavoor Road Junction road.

A pressnote from the office of the Works Minister said that Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac had also appreciated the urgent need for development of road and extended his support to the proposal for land acquisition under fast track scheme.

Mr. Mons Joseph has issued instruction to officials of his department for speedy action to implement the Cabinet decision.
