Cairn Oil & Gas Proposes Field Development Plan for Gas Production in Jaya Block

Cairn Oil & Gas made a significant announcement on Thursday, revealing the submission of its Field Development Plan (FDP) to initiate gas production from the Open Acreage Licensing Program (OALP) block situated in Gujarat's Bharuch district.

This development follows Cairn's notification in August 2021 regarding the gas and condensate discovery in the Jaya field within its onshore OALP block in Gujarat, underlining the company's commitment to exploration and development in the region.

According to Cairn Oil & Gas, the FDP aims to achieve an initial production of over 2,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd). The successful implementation of this plan has the potential to contribute significantly to Cairn's objective of doubling production capacities and fostering energy self-reliance for India. Importantly, this marks the first Field Development Plan submitted in the OALP regime, encompassing 144 blocks awarded under eight OALP rounds by the government to various companies.

Steve Moore, Deputy CEO of Cairn Oil & Gas, expressed delight at the progress made with the Jaya discovery, emphasizing its strategic importance as one of Cairn's initial findings under India's OALP. Moore believes that the Jaya block in Gujarat will play a crucial role in meeting India's growing energy needs.

During the appraisal phase of the Jaya field, Cairn implemented innovative measures for gas evacuation. Notably, it utilized truck-mounted compressed natural gas (CNG) kits to supply CNG to nearby gas stations—a pioneering approach in the industry. This unique facility allowed Cairn to minimize gas flaring in alignment with its decarbonization vision while simultaneously serving as an avenue for gas monetization and meeting national energy demands.

Furthermore, Cairn has entered into a commercial gas sales agreement for the off-take of gas from the Jaya field. Leveraging advanced rock physics and seismic inversion technology, the company has identified a cluster of prospects around the Jaya area that can be developed through tieback to the Jaya facility.

The submission of the Field Development Plan for Jaya signifies Cairn's dedication to creating a new asset in the western region, contributing to holistic economic and sustainable development. Cairn's commitment to exploration and production remains pivotal in its mission to enhance energy security for India.
