Cargill Inaugurates New Corn Milling Plant in Gwalior.

Cargill has inaugurated a new corn milling plant in Gwalior, developed by Saatvik Agro Processors, to meet the growing demand for starch derivatives in India's confectionery, instant formula, and dairy sectors.

The facility, established under a business arrangement with Saatvik Agro, has an initial production capacity of 500 tonnes per day, with the potential to expand to 1,000 tonnes per day. It combines Cargill’s global expertise in product development, customer network, and market access with Saatvik Agro’s local manufacturing capabilities to ensure a steady supply of high-quality food solutions.

The expansion will enhance Cargill’s production capacity in India while optimizing supply chains for food manufacturers. The plant will primarily serve North, Central, and Western India, reducing reliance on supplies from the South and improving cost-effectiveness and logistics. Cargill is also considering export opportunities to expand its market reach.

The facility was inaugurated by John Fering, Group President, Food APAC, Cargill, and Simon George, President, Cargill India, and Managing Director, Food South Asia.

“This Gwalior plant strengthens our manufacturing network in India, allowing us to serve customers in North and West India more efficiently while enhancing supply chain efficiencies across the food ecosystem,” said Simon George. “By leveraging local manufacturing, we are reducing supply timelines, improving cost-effectiveness, and ensuring a stable supply of essential food ingredients.”

India’s confectionery, instant formula, and dairy sectors, valued at $15 billion, are projected to grow at annual rates between 6% and 11% over the next five years. This surge in demand for starch derivatives, used as thickening and stabilizing agents in products such as gummies, jellies, yogurt, cheese, and infant formula, underscores the strategic importance of Cargill’s new plant.
