In a significant development, G.V.L. Narasimha Rao, a Rajya Sabha member and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced on Saturday that the Union government has approved a substantial allocation of ₹1,965 crore for the construction of harbors and jetties in various regions of Andhra Pradesh, including Srikakulam. Speaking at a press conference in Srikakulam, Rao highlighted the positive impact this funding will have on the local community, particularly the fishermen who have been compelled to migrate to other states due to limited livelihood opportunities.
Rao expressed his optimism about the construction of these harbors and jetties, emphasizing that they will create new employment prospects for the fishermen in the State, thereby preventing the need for migration. This significant investment is set to enhance the infrastructure and economic development of the region.
During the press conference, BJP's Srikakulam district president, Birangi Umamaheswara Rao, and senior party leader Pydi Venugopalam made allegations against the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government. They claimed that the YSRCP had been renaming central government schemes in an attempt to discredit the BJP. These allegations underscore the ongoing political dynamics in the region.
In related party affairs, a new committee for the Srikakulm district unit took an oath of office and pledged to enhance the party's presence and influence in all the mandals. This demonstrates the BJP's commitment to strengthening its organizational structure and expanding its reach within the district.
