Centre Begins Land Acquisition Process for Mohali-Rajpura Railway Line.

District authorities in Mohali are preparing to launch the land acquisition process for the Mohali-Rajpura railway line, with District Collector Komal Mittal confirming that formalities will proceed once the final line alignment and technical details are received from Indian Railways. “The notification and alignment plan are awaited. Once received, we will move ahead with the necessary formalities,” Mittal stated.

Officials describe the Mohali-Rajpura railway link as a transformative project for the Malwa region and neighboring areas, expected to significantly improve connectivity between Chandigarh, southern Punjab, and Haryana. The new line will improve access to cities such as Sirhind, Bathinda, Sirsa, Fazilka, Abohar, Jind, and Hisar, while relieving congestion on the busy Chandigarh–Ambala section and providing an alternative route for freight movement.

Local residents and public representatives have welcomed the development, considering it a long-standing demand that will finally see progress. The new railway link is anticipated to streamline passenger services and expedite goods transport, offering major benefits to farmers, traders, and industries. Enhanced rail connectivity is also expected to reduce travel time and road traffic, delivering environmental and economic advantages.

Upon completion, the Mohali-Rajpura railway corridor will reinforce Punjab’s internal rail network, bolster industrial zones, and open new avenues for trade and tourism.
