Chennai Airport Expansion: T3 Terminal Set for June 2026 Completion.

The new T3 Terminal at Chennai International Airport, a key component of its ongoing ₹2,500 crore expansion, is now slated for completion by June 2026, slightly behind its original December 2025 target.

M. Rajakishore, who is set to take charge as the new Airport Director for the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Chennai, confirmed the revised timeline. A senior AAI official noted that a show-cause notice had recently been issued to the contractor due to the slow pace of work.

The Phase-II modernization is designed to boost the airport's capacity to 35 million passengers annually. The project includes a range of new passenger amenities to improve efficiency and convenience, such as:

  • Additional check-in counters

  • More immigration counters

  • Automatic tray return systems at security checkpoints

  • New baggage belts
