Chennai Metro to Start Work on Koyambedu-Pattabiram Line.

The Tamil Nadu government has granted administrative sanction for Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) to begin preliminary work on the new metro line that will connect Koyambedu to Pattabiram via Avadi. The initial work, which includes land acquisition and the shifting of utilities, is budgeted at ₹2,442 crore.

This preparatory phase is a key step for the 21.76 km stretch, which has an estimated total completion cost of ₹9,928 crore. The overall project cost includes a significant ₹2,204 crore for land acquisition and structures.

Project Details and Funding

The project, which received in-principle approval from the state in May, will also include a highways component. Three new flyovers are slated for construction at an additional cost of ₹464 crore.

The state government has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the line and has submitted it to the central government for approval and funding. The plan is to finance the project through a combination of equity sharing with the Centre and loans from international funding agencies.
