Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Ltd, the cement division of Gujarat-based Nirma Ltd, is significantly scaling up its operations in Gujarat. The company has announced the establishment of a new two million tonnes per annum (MTPA) grinding unit in Kutch as part of its strategy to refurbish and operationalize the recently acquired assets of Vadraj Cements. This expansion will increase Nuvoco's planned investment in restarting Vadraj Cement's facilities in the Kutch and Surat districts from the initial ₹1,200 crore to an estimated ₹1,500 crore.
During the company's earnings call for the fourth quarter results, Jayakumar Krishnaswamy, Managing Director, stated, "We have identified that there are fiscal opportunities available in the state of Gujarat, for expanding in Kutch and we have decided to set up a grinding unit in Kutch facility for 2 million tonnes. The overall capex needed to rebuild the Kutch and Surat facility and also put up a grinding unit in Kutch will now be turned up from the original ₹1,200 crore to ₹1,500 crore."
Nuvoco aims to commission the new grinding unit in Kutch along with the existing assets of Vadraj Cements in both Kutch and Surat by December 2027. This strategic move underscores Nuvoco's commitment to strengthening its market presence in the key Gujarat region through both organic expansion and the successful integration of its recent acquisition.
