"Chennai's 133-Km Peripheral Ring Road to Connect Key Highways and Locations by 2025"

The ambitious 133-kilometre Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR), designed to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity, is on track for completion by the end of 2025. The project will provide an access-controlled route linking key highways, offering smoother connections between Chennai's major arterial routes.

Work is progressing well, with a 30.8-km stretch from Tiruvallur Bypass to Sriperumbudur under construction. Contractor L&T has completed 79% of its section, which is expected to be finished on schedule as a six-lane road. SPK Ltd, the other contractor, has completed 50% of its portion, with Section 4 from Sriperumbudur to Singaperumalkoil already finished.

A key feature of the project is the inclusion of two-lane service roads for local traffic, running parallel to the main route. Land acquisition for these service lanes is underway, with plans to address forest land issues through a land swap proposal.

The final 27.41-km stretch from Singaperumalkoil to Mamallapuram is making strides in land acquisition, and while financial delays postponed its start, work is set to commence soon. This section, initially planned as a four-lane road, will now be expanded to six lanes to accommodate future traffic.

Once completed, the Peripheral Ring Road will connect key national highways—NH5, NH4, NH45, and the East Coast Road (ECR)—improving connectivity to vital economic and industrial areas. The road will also be one of the city's first access-controlled roads, revolutionising Chennai’s transportation infrastructure.
