Chittagong Port barred foreign ship from entering

Chittagong: The Chittagong Port Authority barred a foreign vessel from entering the port area, suspecting of carrying toxic substances harmful for human bodies.

The Bahaman flag carrier oil tanker ‘Alfa Ship’ reached the country on April 27 brought by a local shipping agent Jems Finlay for scrapping at Bhatiary ship breaking yard.

CPA sources said a four-member committee, headed by shipping department director general AKM Shafique Ullah, had been formed to investigate the matter.

The committee would collect samples from the ship and send them for testing in three laboratories.

Based on that report the authorities would take the decision of allowing the ship inside the port area or not, the sources added.
