CM Yogi Announces Opening of 17 New Medical Colleges.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced on Friday that medical education in the state is being significantly enhanced, with the doubling of MBBS seats and the opening of 17 new medical colleges this year. Speaking at the inauguration of KMC Medical College (PPP) in Maharajganj district, he highlighted the substantial transformation in healthcare within the state, referencing the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, which has evolved from being perceived as a "sick" institution to competing healthily with the prestigious AIIMS Gorakhpur.

Adityanath reflected on the state’s challenges when he took office in 2017, noting that insufficient funds hampered operations, including salary payments. However, he credited teamwork and collective support for the progress achieved since then. He also shared that over 5.14 crore underprivileged individuals in Uttar Pradesh have received the Ayushman Bharat Yojana golden card.

The Chief Minister outlined the establishment of new medical colleges in districts such as Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Bahraich, Sultanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, and Pratapgarh, highlighting that Uttar Pradesh has expanded its medical institutions from just 18 colleges to facilities in 64 districts. He assured that medical colleges will also be established in the remaining 6-7 districts under a new policy, fulfilling the goal of "One District, One Medical College."

Accusing previous administrations of neglecting the Terai districts, Adityanath emphasized that Maharajganj is now receiving attention, with development projects valued at ₹940 crore underway. He recounted how the region once faced significant issues, including poor infrastructure, health crises, and the shutdown of sugar mills. He stated that cases of encephalitis have now ceased in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister stressed the importance of improving connectivity to the new medical colleges and announced the development of nursing and paramedical colleges across the state to bolster the healthcare workforce. He also noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India is poised to become a global economic powerhouse, projecting that the nation will be the third largest economy in the world within the next three years.
