Coal India Steps Up Solar Push with 524 MW Capacity Under Execution.

State-run Coal India Ltd (CIL), which is steadily expanding beyond its core coal business, currently has around 524 MW of solar projects under execution as part of its diversification into renewable energy.

The company, which has set an ambitious target of becoming a 5 GW solar power producer by 2030, is scaling up its clean energy portfolio through a mix of operational assets and projects under development.

Coal India’s installed solar capacity stood at about 357 MW by the end of FY26, which includes a 100 MW solar project in Gujarat’s Patan, according to company data.

“We aspire to become a 5 GW solar power company by 2030,” Coal India Chairman and Managing Director B. Sairam said in an interaction with businessline.

The expansion marks a significant step in Coal India’s broader diversification strategy as it looks to strengthen its presence in the renewable energy sector alongside its traditional coal operations.
