Coal India Unveils ₹3,300 Crore Investment for Coking Coal Washeries.

Coal India is set to strengthen the quality of its coking coal output with plans to establish eight new washeries at an estimated capital outlay of ₹3,300 crore.

According to a recent stock exchange filing, the proposed washeries are expected to become operational by FY30 and will together add a coal washing capacity of 21.5 million tonnes per year (MT/Y). The move is aimed at enhancing the grade and usability of coking coal, a critical input for steel production.

The new facilities will augment the company’s existing infrastructure. Coal India currently operates 10 coking coal washeries with a combined capacity of 18.35 MT/Y, and the planned additions are expected to significantly scale up its processing capabilities.
