The government is dedicated to the comprehensive development of Srikakulam district to curb migration, Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ramamohan Naidu announced recntly He revealed that a detailed project report is in progress for the construction of a coastal corridor connecting Bhogapuram airport in Vizianagaram district to Mulapeta port in Srikakulam district.
Naidu emphasized that irrigation and industry are top priorities for the government. Noting the existence of four major rivers in the district, he expressed concern that no funds had been allocated for their development in the past five years. The minister set a target to complete the Phase II works of the Vamsadhara project by June 2025, which will enable the storage of 19 TMC of water, transforming the district into a lush green landscape. He also highlighted plans to complete the Nagavali and Vamsadhara river interlinking projects, along with requests for new designs to mitigate flooding in 5,000 acres and resolve land acquisition challenges.
Furthermore, Naidu pointed out that a 10,000-acre land bank near Mulapeta port is designated for the development of a pharmaceutical and biotech hub. He added that the port is expected to be operational within a year, with beach sand projects aimed at generating a turnover of ₹20,000 crore, creating approximately 20,000 jobs. Plans include establishing a titanium complex to extract key minerals from sand and pursuing the construction of an airport near Mulapeta. Additionally, there are intentions to set up one MSME park in each constituency to foster micro-industries.
