Congress wants status quo on the project.
The Congress party recently reiterated its demand that Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation project should come up at Tummidi Hatti village in Adilabad district only as planned originally.
'How can the TRS Government create confusion and controversy over changing the site of the proposed project, which will be the lifeline of Telangana with irrigation potential of 16-lakh acres in seven districts,' Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka remarked at a meeting with retired irrigation engineers in Gandhi Bhavan.
Mr. Bhatti told the meeting that the then Congress Government taking into consideration all issues felt that it was feasible to construct the project at Tummidi Hatti. He said the site of the project was proposed at an elevated location which would help lifting of water up to 100 km through gravity and pumping in Yellampally project.
The Congress leader said the cost of the project would have come down with burden of usage of power. He said if the Government was determined to construct a project at Kaleshwaram, the original project should also come up at Tummidi Hatti.
He reminded the TRS Government that AP Reorganisation Act had envisaged according national project status for Pranahita Chevella scheme. The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha member Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, former PCC chief Narsa Reddy, TPCC spokesperson B.Kamalakar Rao and TPCC Kisan Kheth Cell chairman M. Kodanda Reddy.
