Deendayal Port Authority, DP World Hold Talks on Tuna-Tekra Container Terminal Project.

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) chairman Sushil Kumar Singh held discussions with a delegation from global logistics major DP World, focusing on the proposed Tuna-Tekra container terminal project and broader initiatives to enhance cargo handling capacity and port-led development at Kandla Port.

The meeting, held in Gandhidham on Thursday, also saw participation from DP World’s delegation led by Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director for the SCO region covering Central Asia, the Levant and Egypt. The talks centred on strengthening maritime trade infrastructure and improving logistics efficiency at one of India’s key western ports located in the Kutch district.

A major focus of the discussions was the upcoming Tuna-Tekra container terminal, which is expected to significantly expand cargo handling capacity at Deendayal Port. The project is being positioned as a key step in modernising port infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, and supporting India’s broader push to develop a more robust logistics ecosystem. It is also expected to encourage greater private sector participation and boost trade throughput along the western coast.

Another important agenda item was the proposed Magrail Pilot Project at Kandla, which aims to explore advanced rail-based cargo movement technology. The initiative is intended to strengthen hinterland connectivity, reduce turnaround time, and lower logistics costs, thereby enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian ports.

During the meeting, both sides also explored additional areas of collaboration to strengthen maritime trade and supply chain networks, with an emphasis on leveraging global expertise and technology to support India’s growing trade ambitions.

The engagement underscores DPA’s ongoing efforts to partner with leading global operators and investors to drive infrastructure development and operational efficiency. DP World, which already has a significant presence in India’s port and logistics sector, is continuing to expand its footprint through strategic collaborations and investments.

Officials said such partnerships are key to positioning Kandla as a major maritime hub, capable of handling rising cargo volumes while improving trade flow efficiency in line with national infrastructure priorities.
