Delhi Metro Installs 58-Metre Steel Span Over DME, NH-9 Near Electronic City Station.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed the erection of a 58-metre steel span across NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway near Noida Electronic City station on the Blue Line, marking a key milestone in the construction of a train reversal facility.

The reversal facility is being developed to enable trains to turn around after completing their scheduled trips. The project involves installation of two steel spans measuring 58 metres and 73 metres, both crossing NH-9 and the expressway.

The 58-metre span has been installed between piers 384 and 385, while the second 73-metre span is expected to be erected later this year. DMRC said track laying, electrification and other system-related works will begin after completion of the civil construction.

DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said the installation was carried out without disrupting traffic movement on the busy highway and expressway. He added that the operation was particularly challenging as the span had to pass beneath an energised high-tension overhead power line near pier 384.

"For the installation, steel trestles were erected at designated locations on the highway and expressway, on which support beams were placed," Dayal said.

The prefabricated steel span was then launched from the Indirapuram side and gradually pulled into position using specialised machinery before being placed between the piers. The span has been installed at a height of around 14 metres above the highway and expressway.

DMRC has previously undertaken similar engineering works over busy road intersections, including the Moolchand intersection and the Airport Line and Pink Line viaducts at Dhaula Kuan. However, officials said this is the first time a Delhi Metro viaduct has been constructed over an operational expressway without interrupting traffic.

Earlier in May, construction of a metro pillar on the Indirapuram side of NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway resulted in the closure of the slip road connecting NH-9 to CISF Road. The latest span installation represents a further step towards completing the reversal facility at Noida Electronic City station.
