Doordarshan to increase DTH channel strength

New Delhi: National broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) is planning to strengthen its direct-to-home (DTH) platform, DD Direct Plus and expects to add about 200 channels on its platform by end of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan or 2012.

Presently, DD Direct Plus has 57 Free-to-Air (FTA) channels. In the first phase, DD Direct Plus aims to have about 100 FTA channels and plans to complete it by end of this year. In second phase, it plans to have 200 channels of which many will be FTA channels.

In the Fifth Plan, DD will pump about about Rs 85 crore for strengthening the DD Direct platform. Presently, DD Direct Plus reaches over six million homes.
