"DPR for Koyambedu-Avadi Metro Line Expected by November"

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to finalize the route and station locations for the extension of the metro line from Koyambedu to Avadi by the end of this year. CMRL has awarded Rites Limited a contract valued at ₹80.48 lakh to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the extension.

The contract, formalized on June 11, covers the nearly 16-kilometer corridor from Koyambedu to Avadi, passing through Padi Pudhu Nagar, Ambattur, and Thirumullaivoyal. The route will feature around 15 elevated stations.

The DPR preparation will account for developments such as IT parks, industrial zones, and densely populated areas along the corridor. The project is expected to be completed by November 2024.

The work will include drilling over 30 boreholes for soil investigation and conducting topographical surveys along the entire route. An extensive alignment study will determine the final number of stations and land requirements for the project.
