DPR in Progress for Doubling 263 km of Konkan Railway: Minister.
The Centre has announced that Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) for doubling selected sections totaling around 263 km to boost the route’s capacity.
Replying to a question from Udupi-Chikmagaluru MP Kota Srinivasa Poojary in the Lok Sabha recently, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw noted that doubling of a 55-km stretch has already been completed.
The Konkan Railway spans 739 km from Roha in Maharashtra to Thokur in Mangaluru, Karnataka, traversing the challenging terrain of the Western Ghats. To enhance capacity along the remaining 685 km, track doubling is necessary, a move that will require significant investment with contributions from all the shareholding state governments, the Minister added.
