Chennai-based electric vehicle start-up Raptee.HV has launched its highly anticipated T30 electric motorcycle, which features high-voltage technology typically seen in electric cars. Priced at ₹2.39 lakh, deliveries are expected to begin in January 2025. The company is also in the process of raising $20 million to expand its operations.
The T30 offers an IDC-estimated range of 200 km, with a real-world range of over 150 km on a single charge. It accelerates from 0 to 60 kmph in under 3.5 seconds. Raptee aims to appeal to two key customer groups: motorcycle enthusiasts looking for a lifestyle-aligned upgrade from 250cc ICE motorcycles, and riders of 100cc or 150cc bikes seeking a performance and design upgrade after 3-5 years of use.
"There are few true upgrade options in the market, particularly in the petrol segment, and we aim to fill that gap," said Dinesh Arjun, Co-founder and CEO of Raptee.HV. He noted that while demand for electric motorcycles exists, current offerings haven’t fully tapped into the market potential. Raptee’s T30 introduces a groundbreaking high-voltage system (240V+), making it the first motorcycle globally to offer this technology at its price point.
Arjun anticipates that high-voltage systems will become standard in the electric motorcycle industry over the next five years, with Raptee leading the shift. He highlighted the benefits of high-voltage technology, including prevention of overheating during fast or prolonged rides, more durable battery packs (with an 8-year warranty and 12-year lifespan), and compatibility with existing car charging networks. This will grant T30 users access to over 14,000 fast chargers nationwide.
Raptee has tested its battery packs for over 1,500 charge cycles, with all components, including the battery management system, motor controller, and vehicle control unit, designed in-house. The company is gearing up for production at its Porur factory in Chennai, which has an initial capacity of 1,500 units per month, expandable to 9,000 units.
Raptee plans to roll out the T30 in 8-10 major metro cities, including Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, and Delhi, during its first year, with a target of expanding to 125-150 cities over the next two years. The start-up is focused on slow but steady growth, targeting sales of 8,000 units by 2025 to ensure serviceability and customer satisfaction.
