Exide Industries to Spend ₹1,400 Crore in FY27 on Bengaluru Lithium-Ion Cell Manufacturing Unit.
Exide Industries plans to invest around ₹1,400 crore during the current financial year for the first phase of its multi-gigawatt-hour (GWh) greenfield lithium-ion cell manufacturing project in Bengaluru, with revenue from the facility expected to begin flowing from the third quarter, a top company executive said on Friday.
The storage battery maker has already invested around ₹4,800 crore in the Bengaluru-based lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant.
Speaking to reporters after the company's annual general meeting (AGM), Exide Industries Managing Director and CEO Avik Roy said the company expects to begin supplying domestically manufactured lithium-ion cells to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and energy storage companies from the third quarter of FY27.
"We expect revenue to start flowing in from the Bengaluru plant by the third quarter of the current financial year. Initially, we will replace imported lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for our Gujarat battery pack plant catering to the three-wheeler segment," Roy said.
He added that by the end of the financial year, the company expects to begin supplying battery cells for select two-wheeler battery pack applications, along with nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) cells to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), subject to homologation and regulatory approvals.
The Bengaluru facility is a key part of Exide Industries' strategy to build indigenous lithium-ion cell manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports while catering to the fast-growing electric mobility and energy storage markets.
