Gadkari Announces Municipal Waste to Be Used in Road Construction by 2027.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced recently that municipal waste will be widely used as an alternative material in road construction across India by 2027.

Speaking at the 21st convocation of the SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Gadkari said, “We plan to use all municipal waste in the country, before 2027, in road construction.”

The minister highlighted that nearly 80 lakh tonnes of municipal waste have already been utilized in national highway projects. For instance, about 25 lakh tonnes of waste from Ahmedabad was used in the Ahmedabad-Dholera expressway, while approximately 40 lakh tonnes went into the construction of the Mumbai-Delhi highway.

This initiative is part of efforts to promote sustainable infrastructure development and effective waste management in the country.
