Gadkari to Boost Nagpur's Urban Infra with ₹95 Cr Projects

As Nagpur gears up for its upcoming civic polls, the BJP-led Mahayuti is set to inaugurate a series of completed infrastructure and public utility projects across the city on June 22. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule will jointly unveil projects valued at over ₹95 crore, a strategic move aimed at showcasing the ruling party's development initiatives.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has been functioning under an administrator since its general body was dissolved in March 2022. However, with the recent notification of the ward delimitation process, the city is gradually moving towards municipal elections, creating a timely backdrop for these inaugurations.

The BJP, aiming for a fourth consecutive term at the helm of the NMC since 2007, is looking to capitalize on this momentum by highlighting its developmental work.

Key Projects Set for Inauguration

Among the major projects slated for inauguration is the ₹55.29 crore PMAY 'Swapnaniketan Project', designed to provide affordable housing to citizens. The newly constructed Pachpaoli Fire Station, built at a cost of ₹18.38 crore, will also be unveiled, significantly enhancing the city's emergency response capabilities.

Further bolstering urban health infrastructure, 27 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs (Wellness Centres) will be inaugurated.

Other notable projects include:

  • A ₹5.47 crore tree transplanter machine

  • Three new fire tenders worth ₹4.14 crore

  • A smart toilet facility at Omkar Nagar costing ₹45.68 lakh

  • A hot mix plant for road repairs, developed at ₹2.21 crore

  • The Kalamna swimming pool, completed at a cost of ₹3.23 crore

Additionally, beautification works worth ₹3.85 crore will be inaugurated. These include landscaping under flyovers at Mehandibagh, Dahi Bazar, Sakkardara, and Dighori; vibrant graffiti murals near JP Nagar Metro Station; and public art installations such as murals of women riding bikes and an astronaut standing at Narendra Nagar Square, aiming to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal.

The inauguration of these diverse projects is widely seen as a calculated move by the BJP to reinforce its development credentials and appeal to voters as the civic polls draw nearer.
