Ghatkopar Railway Station Revamp Set for Completion with Modern Infrastructure by 2027.

Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) aims to complete the station improvement works at Ghatkopar by 2027, with significant progress already made under Phase I, which was commissioned in December 2023. The upgrades are designed to transform the station into a modern hub of railway infrastructure, enhancing commuter experience and convenience.

MRVC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Sunil Udasi, emphasized the corporation’s commitment to delivering a state-of-the-art station, stating, “We are focused on creating a model station and ensuring that Phase II progresses as planned, without compromising on commuter comfort.”

Phase II of the project includes the construction of two 12-meter-wide, 75-meter-long Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) at the CSMT and Kalyan ends of the station, along with a 300-meter-long, 8-meter-wide elevated west deck above platform 1. Work on the elevated deck is underway, with pile foundations and site clearance already in progress.

Additional upgrades will include a 4-meter-wide skywalk linking platform 4 to the north-end municipal FOB, along with new service buildings for GRP and electrical rooms. A G+1 structure will also be built on the east side of the station, housing ticket counters and office spaces. The project will feature six staircases, four double-discharge staircases, seven escalators, and three lifts.

Udasi outlined the current status, noting that the foundation for the south FOB is complete and column fabrication is in progress, while demolition work for the old booking office on the north FOB is nearly halfway done. For the west deck, pile foundation work has begun, and service buildings are being constructed or relocated.

Phase I upgrades included the commissioning of a 75x12-meter FOB, a 15x45-meter east deck, and a booking office with four counters. Six escalators were also installed, with the latest one commissioned on December 6. Other amenities, such as a two-wheeler parking area beneath the east deck and a façade on the east side, are nearing completion. However, work has been slightly delayed due to the removal of an obstructing municipal toilet.

“These upgrades are part of MRVC’s vision for a commuter-friendly, modern station at Ghatkopar,” Udasi added.
