GMDC Gets Green Nod for Lakhpat-Punrajpur Lignite and Limestone Project.
GMDC, a Government of Gujarat enterprise and one of India’s leading lignite producers, has received Environmental Clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for its Lakhpat-Punrajpur Lignite and Limestone Mine in Kutch, Gujarat.
The mine has been approved with a production capacity of 3.0 MTPA of lignite and 29.81 MTPA of limestone, marking a significant regulatory milestone for GMDC and enhancing long-term production visibility. The clearance strengthens the company’s mineral resource base within Gujarat and consolidates its position across both fuel and industrial mineral segments.
The integrated development of lignite and limestone is expected to support key sectors, including energy generation, cement, and other mineral-based industries, improving supply stability and reinforcing GMDC’s strategic relevance in the state’s industrial ecosystem.
The Lakhpat-Punrajpur project is part of GMDC’s expansion strategy to grow reserves, diversify mineral streams, and ensure sustainable operational growth. The company emphasized its commitment to responsible mining practices, environmental safeguards, and transparent compliance frameworks, aiming for long-term value creation while advancing the project in line with statutory requirements.
