Goa's Mandovi River Gets New Ro-Ro Ferry Service July 14.
Goa's Mandovi River will see a significant upgrade in its public transportation today, Monday, July 14, 2025, as the state government launches its first Roll-on-Roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service. This new service will connect Chorao Island to the capital city of Panaji, marking a modern replacement for the conventional ferry boats.
State River Navigation Department Minister Subhash Phal Desai informed PTI that the Ro-Ro service will drastically cut travel time, reducing the journey from the island to the mainland to just 12 minutes, a considerable improvement from the 30 minutes currently taken by traditional ferries.
The key advantage of the new Ro-Ro ferry boats, as explained by the minister, is their drive-in, drive-out facility. This innovative design allows vehicles to simply drive onto the ferry from one side and drive off from the other, significantly reducing passenger inconvenience and turnaround times. The launch is expected to enhance connectivity and ease daily commutes for residents and visitors alike.
