Godrej Pumps ₹350 Crore into Warehouse, Forklift Capacity Expansion.

The Godrej Enterprises Group is investing ₹350 crore to expand its presence in India’s fast-growing warehousing and quick-commerce ecosystem, as it targets significant growth in its material handling business over the next two years.

The company aims to scale its material handling division, currently valued at around ₹1,000 crore, to between ₹1,500 crore and ₹2,000 crore, driven by rising demand for forklifts, warehouse automation solutions and intralogistics equipment. Industry sources said the growth is being fuelled by rapid expansion among quick-commerce and e-commerce players, including Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, Flipkart and Amazon.

As part of its expansion strategy, Godrej has established a new manufacturing facility at Khalapur near Mumbai with an initial annual production capacity of 15,000 units. The new plant represents a fivefold increase over the company’s previous facility in Vikhroli, which had a capacity of about 3,000 units annually. The company also plans to eventually double the Khalapur facility’s capacity to 30,000 units.

While consumers primarily interact with delivery apps and riders, industry executives point out that the backbone of quick-commerce operations lies within warehouses and fulfilment centres. These facilities rely on sophisticated material handling and automation systems to sort, stack, move and replenish inventory in real time, enabling rapid order processing and delivery.

Godrej’s latest investment underscores its confidence in the long-term growth prospects of India’s logistics and quick-commerce sectors, where demand for efficient warehousing infrastructure and advanced intralogistics solutions continues to rise.
