Govt Fast-Tracks Plans for 2nd Airport, Shortlists Two Locations.

The Karnataka government is fast-tracking the plans for Bengaluru's second international airport, aiming to finalize the location soon amid mounting pressure over delays and growing competition from Tamil Nadu's proposed greenfield airport at Hosur, located just 35 km from the city.

The government had earlier identified seven potential sites for the new airport through a study conducted by the consulting firm Idec. However, the process slowed due to disagreements among ministers and disruptions caused by byelections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. With the bypolls now concluded and the Maharashtra election campaign nearing its end, officials are optimistic that the project will regain momentum.

The second airport is seen as critical for handling Bengaluru's expanding air traffic and ensuring the city's continued growth as a major global hub.
