Govt. nod for Metro-5, Metro-6.

To speed up Metro rail construction, the State Cabinet recently gave final approvals to the Metro-5 and Metro-6 lines.

The Metro-5 line will connect Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan covering a distance of approximately 25 km., while the 14.47-km Metro-6 will connect Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg. The Metro-5 project is expected to cost ₹8,416 crore.

The government has already begun phases 2A, 3 and 4 of the Mumbai Metro Rail Project.

The 2A phase connecting Dahisar and DN Nagar will be 18.6 km, Metro-3 connecting Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ will be 33.5 km while Metro-4, linking Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane, will be 32 km.

Civil works are in progress for phases 2A and 3, while tendering is in process for the Wadala-Thane stretch. “We have to complete most of these by the end of 2022 at a cost of about ₹45,000 crore. We estimate the Dahisar-DN Nagar stretch to be completed by the end of 2019,” a senior government officer said.
