Gujarat Plans Major Maritime Push with EoIs for Shipyards, Ports and Shipbuilding Cluster.

Gujarat has unveiled an ambitious maritime infrastructure expansion plan, inviting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to develop three greenfield shipyards, an integrated mega shipbuilding cluster and six new ports along its coastline. The projects, expected to attract investments of more than ₹35,000 crore, are aimed at reinforcing the state's position as India's leading port and shipbuilding hub.

The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has floated two EOIs for projects spanning over 4,500 hectares. The proposed developments include shipyards with a combined capacity to build 3-3.9 million gross tonnes (GT) of vessels annually, along with six greenfield ports to be developed under the Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model.

The three greenfield shipyards are proposed at Mithapur in Devbhumi Dwarka, Ghogha in Bhavnagar and Vadhera in Amreli, while the Integrated Mega Shipbuilding Cluster will come up at Kuchhadi in Porbandar.

"The shipbuilding cluster will be set up with the help of the Government of India. We are expecting an estimated investment of ₹25,000 crore for these projects," Ajay Kumar, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Gujarat Maritime Board, told businessline.

The proposed projects are strategically located along Gujarat's western and southern coastline, leveraging existing industrial ecosystems and maritime connectivity to boost the state's shipbuilding and port infrastructure.
