Guwahati Railway Station Unveils State-of-the-Art Passenger Facility.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who oversees Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology, virtually inaugurated a new passenger facility at Guwahati railway station recently, as part of efforts to modernise railway infrastructure and enhance passenger comfort.
Located outside the station, the state-of-the-art facility offers world-class amenities, including a sleeping pod, a modern air-conditioned lounge, and multi-cuisine restaurants. It aims to provide travellers with a hygienic, secure, and customer-friendly environment, with dedicated facilities for women passengers, ensuring a safe and restful travel experience.
Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw highlighted the government’s increased focus on the northeast, noting that rail funding for the region has grown significantly over the past decade, with a record allocation of ₹11,486 crore in the Union Budget 2026-27. “Projects worth around ₹72,468 crore are already underway in the region, reflecting a sustained push to enhance connectivity and infrastructure,” he said.
He added that improved rail connectivity not only facilitates passenger movement but also boosts economic activity, enabling smoother transport of goods, fostering trade, and opening markets for local products—an effort aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
