HAL bags Rs. 1,090 crore Air Force contract.

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) has won a defence contract worth Rs. 1,090 crore, to produce and supply 14 Do-228 aircraft to the Indian Air Force along with six reserve engines, one flight stimulator and related equipment.

The HAL Do-228 aircraft are manufactured by the Transport Aircraft Division at Kanpur.

The Division has previously supplied 125 Hindustan Aeronautics Do-228 planes for the defence and other customers and has expertise in manufacturing the transport and trainer category of aircraft.

The aircraft has also been supplied to Mauritius and Seychelles. The Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Do-228 is a multi-purpose, fuel efficient, lightweight twin turboprop machine with a retractable tricycle landing gear.

The cockpit is designed for two members will the cabin can accommodate 19 passengers in commuter arrangement.
