Haryana Chief Secretary Orders Review of Metro Plans Connecting Dwarka to IFFCO Chowk.

Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi has directed the Haryana Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (HMRTC) to review the proposed metro alignment and station plans prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) that aim to connect Yashobhoomi in Dwarka with IFFCO Chowk. The instruction was issued during a board meeting of HMRTC held in Chandigarh.

Officials revealed that DMRC recently shared its draft proposal for the corridor intended to initiate Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation. Since this alignment may partially overlap with an earlier plan developed by HMRTC, the chief secretary has asked the corporation to examine the details thoroughly to ensure optimal benefits for commuters.

HMRTC has already prepared a comprehensive DPR for an 8.4-kilometer corridor stretching from Rezang La Chowk in Palam Vihar to Sector 21 Dwarka in Delhi. This project has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for approval. The corridor is designed to enhance connectivity to Dwarka Sector 21 Metro station, a key terminal for the Airport Express Line that also connects with the Blue Line. Additionally, plans are underway to link this corridor with the upcoming metro line between Millennium City Centre and Cyber City.

Last week, The Times of India reported that DMRC was reconsidering its plan to extend metro connectivity between Dwarka and Gurgaon. The revised proposal envisions a 12 km corridor starting from Yashobhoomi station in Sector 25, Dwarka, passing through Bharthal, Bijwasan, Carterpuri, and Tau Devi Lal Park in Sector 23, before ending at IFFCO Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. An interchange is proposed at Sector 23 station, which will connect with the metro corridor between Millennium City Centre and Cyber City, being developed by GMR Group.

A senior HMRTC official stated, "Since both planned corridors touch Dwarka and head towards Gurgaon, we need to check the alignments and station locations carefully. Our goal is to ensure that the alignment provides maximum benefits to commuters. The DPR for Rezang La Chowk to Sector 21 in Dwarka has already been submitted to the Union ministry."

Meanwhile, HMRTC has advanced with plans for the next phase of metro expansion in Gurgaon's transit network. The corporation has awarded contracts to RITES for preparing two new DPRs. The first project involves a 17 km metro line from Bhondsi to Gurgaon Railway Station, aimed at easing congestion on Sohna Road and NH8. This route will pass through Vatika Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Sohna Chowk, Sector 4-7 Chowk, and Railway Road, intersecting with the Millennium City Centre–Cyber City corridor at Subhash Chowk and Sector 5. An interchange at Rajiv Chowk is also planned to connect with the upcoming rapid rail system (RRTS), facilitating seamless transfer between metro and rapid rail networks.

The second proposed corridor spans approximately 13 km, linking Golf Course Extension Road with Sector 5. This route intends to connect Gurgaon's commercial hubs with older residential neighborhoods, passing through Sector 57's Hong Kong Market, Ardee City, Millennium City Centre, Signature Tower, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Atul Kataria Chowk, and Sheetla Mata Road.
