Himadri Speciality Chemical to Commission Odisha Plant by FY27.

Himadri Speciality Chemical, a key player in the speciality chemical sector, has announced plans to commission its ₹1,130-crore greenfield plant in Odisha during the second half of FY27. This facility will focus on producing lithium iron phosphate (LFP), a crucial component for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs).

Anurag Choudhary, Chairman and Managing Director of Himadri Speciality Chemical, shared that construction of the Odisha plant will begin in January next year. The plant will have an initial production capacity of 40,000 tonnes per annum. "We are planning to commission the plant during the second half of FY27. Total capital expenditure for this plant will be ₹1,130 crore," Choudhary said.

The Odisha facility marks the company’s foray into the rapidly growing EV and energy storage sectors. Himadri also revealed plans to establish two additional greenfield plants dedicated to lithium iron phosphate production, further expanding its capabilities in the sector.

LFP is a key material for the cathodes of lithium-ion batteries, which play a vital role in determining battery performance, particularly for electric vehicles. The company’s strategic focus on LFP production is part of its long-term growth plan.

In December 2023, Himadri Speciality Chemical announced an investment of ₹4,800 crore over the next five to six years to produce around 2 lakh tonnes of LFP, marking a significant step toward diversifying its product offerings and advancing its role in the development of advanced materials for the EV market.
