HMEL to Invest ₹2,600 Crore in Guru Gobind Singh Refinery Expansion.

HPCL Mittal Energy Ltd (HMEL) recently announced plans to invest ₹2,600 crore at the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery in Bathinda, Punjab, to set up polypropylene downstream industries and fine chemical projects.

Prabh Das, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HMEL, said the presence of the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery has helped Punjab emerge as a major hub for polypropylene manufacturing in the country. He noted that the refinery currently meets nearly 14 per cent of India’s total polypropylene demand.

Das also highlighted the refinery’s strong operational performance, stating that it has been running continuously without interruption for several years. The proposed investment is aimed at further strengthening the downstream ecosystem and adding value through specialised chemical products.
