Hyundai to Invest ₹1,500 Crore in Modernisation of Chennai Factory

Hyundai Motor India, the country’s second-largest car manufacturer, has submitted a pre-feasibility report outlining plans for a major revamp and modernisation of its Chennai-based manufacturing facility. The South Korean automaker is set to invest around ₹1,500 crore in the project.

The expansion will increase the plant’s size from 5.40 lakh sq m to 7.21 lakh sq m, involving the acquisition of an additional 1.81 lakh sq m of land. This move is aimed at improving operational efficiency and boosting production capacity. While Hyundai has not commented further on the development, the modernisation is expected to create 155 new jobs, adding to the factory’s existing workforce of over 19,700 employees.

Located in Irungattukottai, Hyundai's facility spans 538 acres and currently produces 8.50 lakh cars annually. The revamp is intended to integrate advanced technologies and further enhance the plant's manufacturing processes to meet growing demand.
