ICAR Approves Two Cotton Research Centres for Telangana.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has sanctioned the establishment of two All India Coordinated Research Project (ACRIP) Centres on cotton in Telangana.

Following the state bifurcation, Telangana had lost its representation in national-level cotton research coordination centres, which meant that Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) had been unable to participate in the national cotton research system for the past decade.

To address this, PJTSAU officials recently met ICAR Director-General Himanshu Pathak and Deputy Director-General TP Sharma in New Delhi, requesting the sanctioning of a research programme under the all-India framework. They proposed setting up two centres—one in Warangal and a sub-centre in Adilabad.

ICAR has agreed to the proposal, with plans to establish the two centres, providing staff and funding to support cotton research at PJTSAU. Vice-Chancellor Aldas Janaiah confirmed that the centres would begin full-fledged research activities in the next financial year.
