India plans to establish a "mini Silicon Valley" in Goa to attract Global Capability Centers (GCCs) and bolster high-tech industries, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced. Speaking at the Amazing Goa Global Business Summit, Goyal emphasized the central and state governments' commitment to making Goa a hub for data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, and advanced electronics and automotive production.
“Together, we can build a robust framework to develop Goa as a preferred destination for high-tech industry, from data centers to cutting-edge electronics and automobile products,” said Goyal.
Highlighting India’s broader economic trajectory, he projected the economy could reach $35 trillion in the next 25 years, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of India as a major global force in the 21st century.
While Goa is well-known for tourism, Goyal pointed out its potential in new sectors like artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and food processing, which could significantly contribute to the state's economy. Additionally, he emphasized Goa's unique appeal as a wellness and cultural tourism destination, with a recent survey naming it India’s top wedding destination.
