Indian Railways Clears Electrification Upgrade for Telangana Route.

Indian Railways has approved the upgrade of the electric traction system on the Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal section of South Central Railway, a key stretch under the country’s High-Density Network (HDN) routes.

The project, covering approximately 141 route-kilometres in Telangana, will be implemented at an estimated cost of ₹285.01 crore.

Under the upgrade plan, the existing 1×25 kV traction system will be replaced with a modern 2×25 kV system. The enhancement is expected to provide a more stable and efficient power supply, improving the reliability, safety and smoothness of train operations on the corridor.

The Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal route forms part of the broader Dharmavaram–Dhone–Mahbubnagar–Secunderabad–Medchal–Mudkhed–Indore–Ajmer corridor, which handles significant passenger and freight traffic.

Once completed, the project is expected to improve operational efficiency and increase the capacity of freight movement along the route, enabling faster and more reliable transportation of goods. It is also expected to support regional trade, industrial activity and overall economic growth.

Indian Railways said the initiative reinforces its focus on building a modern, energy-efficient and future-ready rail network aimed at enhancing both passenger experience and freight logistics across key corridors.
