Indian Railways Gets 75 New-Age Amrit Bharat Stations Across 20 States.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently dedicated 75 redeveloped railway stations across 20 states to the nation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, marking another major milestone in the government’s railway infrastructure modernisation drive.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the upgraded stations have been developed at a combined cost of around ₹1,570 crore. The latest inauguration follows the dedication of 103 redeveloped stations across 18 states and Union Territories on May 22, 2025.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to transform railway stations into modern, passenger-focused urban centres by combining upgraded infrastructure with regional culture and heritage. The redevelopment programme includes improved station buildings, air concourses, wider foot-over-bridges, executive lounges and enhanced passenger facilities.

The upgraded stations also feature accessibility-focused amenities such as lifts, ramps and tactile pathways for Divyangjan passengers, along with modern passenger information systems and improved circulation areas.

The 75 stations inaugurated on Saturday are spread across 20 states, including 13 in Madhya Pradesh, eight in Rajasthan, seven each in Odisha and Uttar Pradesh, six in Kerala, four each in Gujarat, Karnataka and Punjab, and others across Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Some of the key stations redeveloped include Cumbum and Mangalagiri in Andhra Pradesh, Muri Junction in Jharkhand, Jalandhar Cantt and S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) in Punjab, Chennai Park in Tamil Nadu, Hi-Tech City in Telangana and Haldibari in West Bengal.

Redevelopment drive gains momentum

Launched in December 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a long-term initiative to redevelop 1,340 railway stations across the country in phases. With the latest additions, redevelopment work has been completed at 261 stations nationwide.

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the regional character of the upgraded stations, saying the new facilities combine modern passenger amenities with local heritage and architecture.

“75 Amrit Stations across 20 states - every station tells the story of its region,” Vaishnaw said in a post on social media, noting that the redeveloped stations represent a blend of world-class infrastructure and cultural identity.
