Industrial parks: works likely to start next month.
The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) is hopeful of laying foundation for two industrial parks in the district next month.
The association is developing Codissia Industrial Estate Parks at Moperipalayam and Kallapalayam to help industries expand or shift out of the city.
“We are working towards finishing the basic works by the end of this month. We plan to have a function in the first week of August, inviting the Chief Minister and Union Government Ministers to lay the foundation,” said its president V. Sundaram. “Only after that can we develop the common infrastructure at the parks,” he added.
A 260-acre park is coming up at Moperipalayam and another 140-acre park at Kallapalayam. The Moperipalayam project is expected to get DTCP approval shortly. In the case of Kallapalayam, the government has re-classified agriculture land into industrial land. It should also get DTCP approval soon. There is a small bhoomi dhan land at Moperipalayam and alternative plot has been given at Kallapalayam so that the Moperipalayam land can be developed as part of the park. This has to be approved by the government, he said.
The two parks together will get 320 to 340 units and the plots are fully booked, he said.
About ₹ 150 crore will be invested at the two parks for development (excluding building, plant and machinery) and the units are expected to invest nearly ₹3,000 crore. The area has been divided into two acre, one acre, 50 cents and 25 cents plots for the industries. The parks will also have centres of excellence.
The project is expected to generate employment and improve industrial infrastructure for the small and medium-scale industries.
