iPhone Supplier Murata Electronics to Lease Factory in Chennai, Full Operations by FY26.
Murata Electronics (India) Private Limited, a subsidiary of Japan-based Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., has signed an agreement to lease a factory within an industrial park in Chennai, with the handover scheduled for February 2025. The facility, located at OneHub Chennai Industrial Park near Mamallapuram, will focus on packaging and shipping multilayer ceramic capacitors and is expected to reach full-scale operations by FY26.
The company stated that this venture will help Murata gain experience in factory operations in India and prepare for future manufacturing activities in the country.
Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister TRB Rajaa welcomed the development, highlighting Murata’s entry alongside major electronics manufacturers like Corning and Jabil. “We have been in discussions with Murata for about a year, and after multiple meetings, we are immensely happy to see them commence production in Tamil Nadu,” he said in a social media post.
Rajaa also emphasized India’s growing role in the global electronics supply chain. “To those who say ‘only assembly’ is happening in India—watch how the supply chain shift is unfolding. India will soon become a global hotspot for advanced electronics manufacturing, with Tamil Nadu leading the way,” he added.
