ISRO Chairman flags off liquid hydrogen storage tank in Sri City.

K Sivan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, flagged off the shipment of India’s largest liquid hydrogen storage tank at VRV Asia Pacific production plant in Sri City.

“Indigenously realising such an advanced version of the liquid hydrogen storage tank is only a beginning for our cooperation. We’ve invited VRV to come forward to undertake the fabrication works of onboard tanks of rockets,” Sivan said. S Pandian, Director, SDSC SHAR, said, “This launch is a typical example of ISRO-industry cooperation for realising import substitutes indigenously.”

According to a statement from Sri City, VRV Asia Pacific manufactured the storage tank with a liquid nitrogen (LIN) shield, in a collaboration with Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, under Make in India initiative.

Tank capacity

The storage tank of 120 kilo litre capacity handles liquid hydrogen used as fuel for satellite launch vehicles.

VRV Asia Pacific, a Chart Group company, designs and manufactures cryogenic equipment from its factory located in Sri City.

The factory, situated on a 30-acre plot, is among technologically sophisticated manufacturing facilities of cryogenic equipment in the world.
