JSW Utkal Steel Awards Sinter Plant Contract to SMS Group for 13.2 MTPA Odisha Steel Project

JSW Utkal Steel Limited has awarded a major contract to Germany-based SMS Group for supplying an advanced sinter plant at its upcoming 13.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) integrated steel complex in Paradeep, Odisha.

The first-phase sinter facility will have an annual production capacity of approximately 5.75 million tonnes, featuring a 496-square-metre sintering strand.

SMS Group’s scope includes complete design, engineering, equipment supply, electrical systems and Level 1 and Level 2 automation.

The plant will incorporate Optimus Sinter digital technology and Emission- and Energy-Optimized Sintering (EOS) systems to enhance productivity, recover waste heat, reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency.

Commissioning is targeted for May 2028.

The contract represents a significant procurement milestone for JSW Group’s greenfield steel expansion in Odisha, strengthening its raw material processing infrastructure. The project supports domestic steel capacity growth and industrial development, while the financial value of the awarded contract remains undisclosed.
