Kamarajar Port Set to Submit DPR for ₹1 Lakh Crore Great Nicobar Transshipment Project.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed ₹1 lakh crore International Container Transhipment Port (ICTP) at Galathea Bay in Great Nicobar Island has been completed and will soon be submitted to the Union Shipping Ministry for approval, said J.P. Irene Cynthia, Managing Director of Kamarajar Port Ltd, which operates the Kamarajar Port in North Chennai.

Speaking to businessline on the sidelines of India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai on Tuesday, Cynthia said that once the DPR receives approval, tenders will be floated to invite participation from private players in the project.

She added that in the first two phases, an investment of ₹44,000 crore is planned to develop a handling capacity of 11 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) over the next three to four years. Upon completion, the fully developed transshipment port will have a total capacity of 16.2 million TEUs, catering exclusively to container traffic.
