Kanpur's New 6.7 Km Four-Lane Highway to Boost Regional Connectivity.

A crucial 6.7-kilometer, four-lane highway project, connecting Kanpur's Ganga Barrage to the Shuklaganj Marhala intersection, is nearing completion, promising to significantly enhance regional connectivity. This new thoroughfare is set to facilitate much easier travel to and from Kanpur, Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Raebareli.

The Public Works Department (PWD) project, estimated at ₹75 crore, has reached approximately 50 percent completion. According to Shah Noor, Assistant Engineer at PWD, about three and a half kilometers of the road have already been asphalted.

Funding for the project includes ₹10 crore allocated to the electricity department for the crucial relocation of poles and transformers. Civil construction work accounts for ₹42 crore, with an additional ₹23 crore earmarked for compensation to landowners whose plots are affected by the road's alignment, particularly between Suraiya Railway crossing and Marhala Chauraha Nabi Nagar Azad Marg.

The comprehensive design of the new highway incorporates integrated drainage networks and modern street illumination. Dedicated pedestrian walkways will run alongside the main road, and the plan includes the strategic placement of traffic signals and safety measures at intersections.

Upon completion, this expanded roadway is expected to dramatically reduce journey times and provide better accessibility for nearby communities and commercial establishments. It's also anticipated to significantly alleviate traffic bottleneck problems, especially during peak hours, creating a smoother flow of traffic in the region.
