Kazipet Railway Manufacturing Unit Eyes 2026 Production Start.

Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced recently that the highly anticipated Railway Manufacturing Unit in Kazipet, Telangana, will commence its manufacturing process by 2026. Vaishnaw made the statement following an inspection of the facility, accompanied by Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy.

"We will start the manufacturing process here in 2026. This factory has big potential; coaches, along with engines, can be manufactured here. Metro can also be manufactured here," Vaishnaw informed the media.

He further elaborated on the significance of the project, stating, "It was a big dream of Telangana to have a coach manufacturing unit in Kazipet. Prime Minister Modi has made efforts for many years to fulfil this dream. This is a mega factory for manufacturing railway coaches...It is a modern factory. We are using modern technology here. ₹500 crore is being invested here."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this unit in July 2023 as part of a larger infrastructure development initiative in Telangana, valued at approximately ₹6,100 crore. The comprehensive development works in Warangal included 176 km of National Highway Projects worth over ₹5,550 crore, alongside the ₹500 crore Railway Manufacturing Unit.

The modern manufacturing unit is designed to significantly enhance Rolling Stock manufacturing capacity. It will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and facilities, including Robotic Painting of Wagons, state-of-the-art machinery, and a modern material storage and handling system. The project is also expected to boost local employment generation and foster the development of ancillary units in the surrounding areas.
